I thought to myself, "This blue needed this much platinum luster."
A customer who previously had us create a London Blue Topaz necklace contacted us again. "This time, a ring"—that single phrase marked the beginning of this remodel.
"I haven't been using it at all," she said, bringing in a blue topaz ring with a slight hint of apology.
The same dignified, deep London blue topaz as in the necklace we made previously. This stone, with its quiet allure, can sometimes appear subdued depending on the design. That's why we focused on creating a "vessel" that would maximize the stone's individuality.
Her wish was for a ring that could be worn casually every day, not just saved for special occasions.
Two rounded platinum arms cross, with the London blue topaz set at their center. The left and right arms are intentionally asymmetrical in thickness and spacing. This created a design where subtle movement and expression emerge from the regularity.
We debated until the very end whether to incorporate the melee diamonds from the original setting. But this time, we decided to let the topaz be the sole star.
Instead, the platinum was polished to a mirror-like finish, so lustrous that one's reflection can be seen. The generous volume and appropriate weight subtly assert their presence on the finger. The London blue's color stands out with striking dignity at the center of the lustrous platinum—that is the most beautiful moment of this ring.
"I want to wear it a lot," she said when we handed it over.
The slumbering blue returns to everyday life. Being able to help with that is the greatest joy.
