Hello everyone. Today, I'd like to share the story behind the creation of a custom-made ring, starting from a loose gemstone.
One day, a client brought in a beautiful 13ct mint green tourmaline loose gemstone and entrusted the ring design entirely to 440. The charm of a gemstone often lies in its deep hue, which typically comes with a considerable depth (thickness). This tourmaline was no exception; its rich green color was beautiful, yet it had substantial depth. While the client loved the color, they were concerned that its depth made it difficult to envision it as jewelry. Our challenge here was to create a design that alleviated the client's concerns.

In addition to this tourmaline, we received two smaller brown diamonds and conceived a design that incorporated all of them. Considering the rich color and quality of the tourmaline, we proposed a ring that would allow its full charm to be appreciated on the hand.
In terms of design, we placed the tourmaline at the center, flanked by brown diamonds on both sides, to highlight the tourmaline's presence while maintaining overall balance.

Specifically, regarding the gemstone's depth, which was a concern for the client, we embraced it as part of its charm. We arranged the tourmaline so that its profile was clearly visible, creating a design that maximized the beauty of the material.

While large gemstones can enhance a sense of opulence, we surrounded the tourmaline with gold and applied a hairline finish to the entire piece, giving it a casual impression. Furthermore, by leveraging the contrast between the gemstone's brilliance and the matte texture, we made the tourmaline's sparkle stand out even more. This innovative shift in perspective, transforming a challenge into a strength, was greatly appreciated by the client. We are sincerely grateful for the opportunity to create this special piece of jewelry.
